New Year’s Day in Oz

Bit of a lazy day for us, being back so late the night before. I got up at 9am or so, had some brekkie and then went for a run through the nearby bush. Had verified my route with our hosts the night before so would be rude not to go today.

At 11am it was already hotter than I thought, but I really enjoyed it anyway. Down a small road, then straight into the greenery and along the Lane Cover River. The track was easy with a bit up and down, a short bit through thicker bush where I briefly questioned my route choice, then steeply uphill back to the main road and to the house.

6.5k or so in the end and it was hot, hot, hot. Had really loved the run in the heat and was glad I did do it after all. Brief shower at home and pack our stuff for Katoomba, then a 10min drive to another one of Rich’s friends of old, who had a chilled NYD party going.

I met a few new people and some of the ones we had been out with the other night and we were both sad to leave around 4pm just when things kicked off properly. But we had a journey into the Blue Mountains ahead of us.

Drove the 90mins to Katoomba and checked into our lovely AirBnB. A sort of extension to a house, with kitchen/lounge, bedroom and bathroom. Nice peaceful and comfy little place.

With most places shut for NYD we found a Thai that was open in the end. Food was amazing, but service a bit chaotic. Rich had his starter and half of his main, before I even got my Mango Frappe. Still enjoyed it and rolled home afterwards looking forward to a day out with our guide the next day.
